As per the sources, Gopal Das, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) rank cop, shot Kishore on his way to inaugurate a party office in Brajrajnagar, Jharsuguda district, Odisha, on January 29, 2023. Gopal fired multiple times at Kishore with his service revolver as he got out of his car to meet his supporters near Gandhi Chowk.

Kishore was airlifted to Apollo Hospital in Bhubaneswar immediately for treatment. But unfortunately, he died at the hospital. As per the sources, Gopal’s motive behind Kishore’s assassination was not disclosed by the police.

The last rites of Naba Das were cremated with full state honors on 30 January 2023. According to the reports, ASI Gopal Das’s wife said that her husband’s mental condition is not well and he is suffering from a mental disorder. In an interview, she said that:-

Now that I’ve heard the news, what should I say? How can I explain why he took this action? Since early morning, I have not spoken to him. He had a video call with my daughter around 11 a.m. today, but he abruptly cut off the call. He was taking medication for his mental health, which was not good. For the past eight years, he was taking medication. He was acting well after taking his medication.”

In December 2015, a television cameraman caught Naba Kishore watching pornographic content on his phone during the Odhisa Assembly session. Later, he was removed from the Odisha Assembly for a week after being accused of disrespecting the assembly.
