Mj Rodriguez started her career in her college days when she was a part of Rent where she portrayed the character of Angel Dumott Schunard a character she always wanted to play ever since the live-action adaptation of the story.
Fredi Walker-Browne who played the role of Joanne Jefferson in Rent the original Broadway production was a part of the audience and praised Michaela Jaé Rodriguez for her performance and then helped her to find an audition for an off-Broadway production of Rent alongside Annaleigh Ashford. Michael’s performance got her the 2011 Clive Barnes Award.
