A video of a popular YouTuber and travel blogger, Kamiya, eating the ‘mahaprasadam’ at the Puri Jagannath temple in Odisha, India, has sparked controversy and outrage among some Hindu groups, especially the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the ruling party at the center. The BJP has demanded the arrest of Jani and a senior official of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in the state, VK Pandian, who accompanied her to the temple, for allegedly hurting the sentiments of the devotees and violating the temple norms.

The controversy erupted after Jani posted a video on her YouTube channel on December 15, 2023, titled ‘Fun chat with Rahul Gandhi over dinner at our Bharat Jodo Yatra campsite in Rajasthan’.
