On July 2, 2021, she and her partner started their four-month cross-country trip from New York. They were using the 2012 Ford Transit Connect van as a vehicle. The couple was also posting their journey on Gabby’s channel.
Later, on August 12, 2021, the couple had a fight and Utah police were called on the scene. However, no charges were filed against any of them. Brian was asked to spend a night in a hotel.
A witness who called 911 stated that this couple was fighting over a call before Petito struck him in the arm. She then tried to climb in through the driver’s side window. After the confrontation, Gabby Petito told the police that she was struggling with mental health.
