On 22nd October, Ritzer asked Philip Chism (student) to stay after school with her. As per the sources, Chism was a shy student, who just moved from Clarksville, Tennessee. Along with Chism, another student was in the classroom, when Colleen Ritzer tried to talk with Philip about Tennessee.

The other student said that Ms. Ritzer changed the topic when she came to know that Philip was disturbed about Tennessee’s conversation. After some time, (before 3:00 pm) Colleen went towards the bathroom. A few minutes later, Philip also went after her. All this was caught in CCTV footage. As per the footage, Chism covered his face with his hoodie. As per the sources, Philip pulled out a boxcutter and his gloves after entering the bathroom.

After this, he scared Colleen Ritzer from behind. He also cut Colleen’s throat over 16 times with a cutter. As per the sources, Philip Chism also brutally raped Colleen.

After this, he exited the restroom. After 10 minutes, he returned to the bathroom after changing his jacket with a big dustbin. According to Wikipedia, Philip Chism dumped out Ritzer’s body about 20 feet into the woods.
At the time of the murder, Colleen was 24 years old and Philip was 14 years old. On December 15, 2015, Chism was found guilty of first-degree murder, aggravated rape, and armed robbery. Philip Chism was sentenced to life in prison with an eligibility of 40 years.
