Captain Shubham Gupta (born 9 October 1997 – died 23 November 2023, Aged: 27 years old) was an Indian Army officer who was martyred in a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir on 23 November 2023. He was leading a team of soldiers in a counter-insurgency operation in the Pulwama district when they came under heavy fire from the militants.
He fought valiantly and killed two terrorists before succumbing to his injuries. He was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra, the third-highest gallantry award in India, for his courage and devotion to duty.

Captain Shubham Gupta was born on 9 October 1997 in Jaipur, Rajasthan. His father, Basant Gupta, is a businessman, and his mother, Pushpa Gupta, is a homemaker. He has a younger brother, Rishabh Gupta, who is pursuing engineering. Shubham was interested in joining the army since his childhood and was inspired by his grandfather, who was also an army veteran.

Career and Achievements
After completing his graduation, Captain Shubham had many lucrative jobs offers from multinational companies, but he chose to follow his passion and join the Indian Army. He cleared the Combined Defence Services (CDS) examination and joined the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun in 2019.
He underwent rigorous training and emerged as one of the best cadets of his batch. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the 4th Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles in 2020 and was posted in Jammu and Kashmir. On 23 November 2023, Captain Shubham Gupta was leading a team of 10 soldiers in a cordon and search operation in the Litter area of Pulwama district, based on a tip-off about the presence of some terrorists. As they approached the suspected hideout, they were ambushed by a group of heavily armed militants. A fierce gunfight ensued, in which Captain Gupta displayed exemplary courage and tactical acumen.
He engaged the terrorists in close-quarter combat and killed two of them. He also ensured the safety of his men and evacuated the injured soldiers to a safer place. However, he sustained multiple bullet injuries in the process and succumbed to them on the spot. He was 27 years old. His mortal remains were flown to his hometown, Jaipur, where he was given a state funeral with full military honors. He was cremated with a 21-gun salute and his ashes were immersed in the Ganga river.
He is survived by his parents, brother, and wife, Neha Gupta, whom he married in February 2023.
