P. Nirajnayan Replaced WB DGP Virendra Ordered by Election Commission To Take Charge Ahead Of Polls

The Election Commission has transferred to West Bengal DGP following the rise in political violence in the state ahead of the elections. Now P. Nirajnayan has been appointed as the new Director-General of Police in the poll-bound state.
Ahead of the hotly contested West Bengal elections, political violence has been on the rise in the state. In order to take the stock of the situation, the Election Commission has ordered the removal of West Bengal’s DGP with immediate effect.
As per the Election Commission’s order, the IPS officer Shri Virendra will be replaced by P. Nirajnayan as a new DGP. This comes on the backdrop of the rise in political violence in the state where several political leaders have come under attack during the campaign trails, including the BJP president JP Nadda and TMC minister Zakir Hussain.
Many leaders of the BJP and the TMC have repeatedly blamed each other for the rising incidences of violence in the state. Several IPS officers have been transferred on account of the worsening law and order situation in the state as the Election Commission looks to ensure a smooth electoral process in the upcoming polls.
