Prime Minister Narendra Modi Travels by Metro to Attend Delhi University Centenary today

On Friday, June 30, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi surprised the commuters and students of Delhi Metro by taking a ride from Lok Kalyan Marg Metro Station to Vishwa Vidyalaya Metro Station. He was on his way to attend the closing ceremony of Delhi University’s (DU) centenary celebrations as the chief guest.
A Historic Moment for Delhi University
Delhi University, one of the premier centers of learning in India, was celebrating the 100th anniversary of its establishment in 1922. The university has been nurturing talent and fostering intellectual growth for a century, producing eminent scholars, leaders, artists, and professionals in various fields.
The closing ceremony of the centenary celebrations was a grand event that witnessed the presence of PM Modi, along with other dignitaries such as the President of India, the Vice President of India, the Governor of Delhi, the Chief Minister of Delhi, the Union Minister of Education, the Chancellor of DU and the Vice Chancellor of DU.
PM Modi also laid the foundation stone of the Delhi University Computer Centre and the building of the Faculty of Technology, and the academic block which will be built on the North Campus of the University. He also inaugurated a new library and a museum dedicated to the history and achievements of DU.
In his address to the gathering, PM Modi congratulated the DU fraternity on this milestone and praised its contribution to nation-building and social transformation. He also highlighted the importance of innovation, research, and skill development in higher education and urged the students and faculty to strive for excellence and global competitiveness.
A Delightful Interaction with Metro Passengers
Before reaching the venue of the ceremony, PM Modi decided to take a metro ride instead of his usual convoy. He boarded a train from Lok Kalyan Marg Metro Station at around 10:30 am and reached Vishwa Vidyalaya Metro Station at around 10:50 am.
During his journey, he interacted with people in inside the metro, especially with students who were heading to DU for attending the ceremony. He greeted them with a warm smile and asked them about their studies, aspirations and hobbies. He also posed for selfies with them and shared some anecdotes from his own student life.
The passengers were delighted and amazed to see PM Modi travelling with them like a common citizen. They appreciated his humility and accessibility and thanked him for his service to the nation. They also expressed their admiration for his vision and leadership.

- Ritu Sharma, a final-year student of English Honours at Hindu College. She told PM Modi that she wants to become a journalist and write about social issues. PM Modi encouraged her to pursue her passion and advised her to read widely and critically.
- Rajesh Kumar, a software engineer working at Infosys. He told PM Modi that he is a fan of his digital initiatives such as Digital India, Aadhaar and UPI. PM Modi appreciated his feedback and asked him to spread awareness about these schemes among his friends and family.
- Priya Singh, a teacher at Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar College. She told PM Modi that she is proud of his efforts to promote education for all, especially for girls and marginalized sections. PM Modi thanked her for her contribution to nation-building and asked her to inspire her students to become responsible citizens.
- Anil Verma, a businessman dealing in solar panels. He told PM Modi that he is inspired by his vision of renewable energy and clean environment. PM Modi congratulated him for his entrepreneurial spirit and urged him to adopt best practices and quality standards in his business.
