‘Water Above Head Now’ – Delhi High Court Slams Centre Govt On Oxygen Shortfall

New Delhi, May 1, 2021 – Now the Delhi High Court has lashed out at the Central and State governments over the oxygen crisis. Remember the Delhi High Court has been hearing on the issue of the oxygen crisis for 11 days now and hospitals in the National Capital must be given their full quota of medical oxygen today by whatever means. And referring to the eight lives lost at the Batra Hospital.

The court said we cannot shut our eyes, the water has gone above the head. The judges’ frustrated because they’ve been hearing this since the crisis began. It’s been over 10 days and just bickering between the center in the state about who’s responsible for where the oxygen is coming from and on the ground. Now we have people dying eight people dying in Batra hospital because of lack of oxygen.

As far as the high court proceedings are concerned. What is happening in the High Court are two things one is the hospital bed issue that the High Court is trying to address at this point. What they are asking the government is to have proper nodal officers a proper mechanism to see why hospital beds are not turning vacant, or their patients who should have left a hospital bed because they are feeling better.

But they continue to hold on to that bed. If there are patients who are holding on to a hospital bed for more than 8 to 10 days despite having only mild to moderate symptoms, then why are those beds not turning vacant? There have to be proper inquiries into that. And the other issue is oxygen. Today the judges said that 8 people have lost their lives and we can’t keep our eyes shut. In a situation like this.

Those were the words that the judges used today, they said that on the 28th of April, these orders were passed that 490 metric tons of oxygen have to be supplied to Delhi by the central government, this system has to be in place and has to be implemented on the ground.

Today is the 1st of May, these orders are not being implemented. And that is why we asked the center again that these orders have to be implemented. And if it does not get followed on the ground, then we will be forced to we will be compelled to take contempt of court proceedings against the government if our orders are not followed. So the courts turning more stringent at this point.
