Amit Shah Unveils Statue of Kailashpati Mishra, the Freedom Fighter and Former Governor

Patna – Union Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled the statue of freedom fighter and former Governor Kailashpati Mishra in Patna on Saturday, March 9, 2024. The event was part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, a year-long celebration of the 75th anniversary of India’s independence.
Shah praised Mishra’s contribution to the freedom movement, the Jan Sangh, the BJP, and the development of Bihar and India. He said that Mishra was a close associate of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who integrated more than 500 princely states into the Indian Union.
“Kailashpati Mishra ji was a great patriot, a visionary leader, and a humble servant of the people. He fought against the British rule, the Congress misrule, and the caste-based politics. He devoted his life to the service of the nation and the welfare of the poor. He was a true son of Bihar and a loyal soldier of the BJP,” Shah said.
Shah also recalled Mishra’s role as the Governor of Gujarat from 2003 to 2004, when Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister. He said that Mishra supported Modi’s efforts to rebuild Gujarat after the 2001 earthquake and the 2002 riots. He said that Mishra was a bridge between the Centre and the state, and a mentor to many young leaders.
Shah said that the BJP government is committed to honouring the unsung heroes of the freedom struggle and the nation-building. He said that Prime Minister Modi has initiated several projects to build memorials, museums, and statues of such personalities across the country.
He cited the examples of the Statue of Unity of Sardar Patel in Gujarat, the museum of Subhas Chandra Bose in Delhi, the statue of Jagajyothi Basavanna in Karnataka, and the statue of Ahom general Lachit Borphukan in Assam.

Shah said that the BJP government is also working to fulfill the dreams of the freedom fighters and the founding fathers of the nation. He said that the government has implemented various schemes and policies to empower the farmers, the women, the youth, and the backward classes.
He said that the government has also taken bold steps to protect the sovereignty and security of the country, such as the abrogation of Article 370, the surgical strikes, the Balakot air strikes, and the Citizenship Amendment Act.
Shah appealed to the people of Bihar to support the BJP and its allies in the upcoming elections. He said that the BJP-led NDA government in Bihar has brought stability, development, and good governance to the state. He said that the BJP and the JD(U) are natural allies and share the same vision and values.
He also thanked the people of Bihar for their overwhelming support to the BJP in the 2023 Lok Sabha elections. He said that the BJP will continue to serve the people of Bihar with honesty, dedication, and sincerity.
The event was attended by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Tarkishore Prasad, BJP state president Sanjay Jaiswal, and other dignitaries. A large number of BJP workers and supporters also gathered at the venue to witness the unveiling of the statue.

The statue of Kailashpati Mishra is made of bronze and is 12 feet tall. It is installed at the Kailashpati Mishra Park in Patna, which was earlier known as the Eco Park. The park has been renovated and beautified by the Bihar government.
Kailashpati Mishra was born on October 5, 1923, in Patna. He joined the Quit India Movement in 1942 and was jailed by the British. He later became a prominent leader of the Jan Sangh and the BJP. He served as the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly from 1977 to 1980. He was also the national vice-president of the BJP from 1991 to 1993.
He was appointed as the Governor of Gujarat in 2003 and served till 2004. He died on November 3, 2012, at the age of 89. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian honour, posthumously in 2013.
