Phase 3 Vaccination Delayed In Most States, Covid-19 Vaccines Not Available

Mumbai, May 1, 2021 – We’ve been tracking the third phase of the vaccination drive in India. Indeed all eyes are on this phase of the vaccination drive, as the third phase will cover people aged 18 to 45 years and it has begun today in some states. However, several states have said that they are not in a position to start the vaccination drive because they do not have any vaccines available with them. The Serum Institute of India was supposed to supply various stocks of vaccine to several states and private hospitals.
But private hospitals are saying that they have received only half of what they needed to get and states are saying they haven’t received anything and that they would only get these vaccination doses by the end of May or June. So the states which are saying that they don’t have the vaccinations yet are Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, and Goa. Two days ahead of the vaccination drive. The Union Health Ministry said more than one crore vaccination doses are still available with states and that they will receive 20 lakh more doses in the next few days.

The ministry said the center has so far provided nearly 16.16 crore vaccine doses to states and union territories free of cost. Meanwhile, 2.45 crore beneficiaries have registered themselves till Friday morning on the COWIN platform for phase three of the vaccination drive. Phase Three of vaccinations have begun today in six states.
