But do you know the story behind his success? How did he overcome the challenges of poverty, family tragedies, and lack of opportunities to become one of the most promising talents in the country? Let’s find out.

Biography

Akash Deep was born on 15 December 1996 (age: 27 years, as of 2023) in Dehri, a small town in Bihar. His father, Ramji Singh, was a school teacher who encouraged him to play cricket. His mother, Ladduma Devi, was a homemaker who supported his dreams. He also had an elder brother and sister who loved him dearly.

Akash Deep grew up playing cricket in his neighbourhood with his friends. He was a batsman initially, but he switched to bowling after watching India win the 2007 T20 World Cup. He was inspired by the likes of Zaheer Khan and Irfan Pathan, who were the heroes of that tournament.

He wanted to pursue cricket professionally, but he faced many hurdles. He belonged to a poor region where there were no proper facilities or coaching for cricket. He had to travel to Durgapur, West Bengal, in 2010 to join a cricket academy. However, he had to return home soon as his father suffered a paralysis attack.

He continued to play cricket whenever he could, but his life took a turn for the worse in 2015. His father passed away after a stroke, and six months later, his brother also died due to an illness. He was shattered by these losses and decided to move to Delhi to stay with his sister.
