Junior Mehmood (born 15 November 1956 – died 8 December 2023, Aged: 67 years old), whose real name was Naeem Sayyed, was a popular child actor, singer, and Marathi film director who worked in more than 250 films in different languages.
He was known for his comic timing and his resemblance to the legendary comedian Mehmood Ali, who gave him the name Mehmood. He passed away on December 8, 2023, at the age of 67, after a prolonged battle with stage four cancer.
Early Life and Family
Junior was born on November 15, 1956, in Bombay, Bombay State (now Mumbai, Maharashtra), India. He was the third among six siblings. His father was a train driver and they lived in railway quarters in Antop Hill, Wadala. His elder sister, Minoo Mumtaz, was also a successful dancer and character actress in Bollywood movies. His youngest brother, Anwar Ali, is also an actor and a producer of films like Khud-daar and Kaash.
Mehmood has been interested in acting and mimicking since his childhood. He used to perform regularly in his school functions and imitate the styles of different actors.

He joined the film industry when he was just nine years old, with the help of his elder brother, who was a still photographer on film sets. He made his debut with the film Kitna Nazook Hai Dil (1967), which was never released due to technical reasons. He got his breakthrough with the film Naunihal (1967), where he played the role of Biloo.

Junior had a successful career as a child actor in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He worked with many prominent actors and directors of that era, such as Rajesh Khanna, Dharmendra, Jeetendra, Dev Anand, Shammi Kapoor, Raj Kapoor, Manoj Kumar, Shakti Samanta, Nasir Hussain, and Prakash Mehra. He was especially close to Mehmood Ali, who mentored him and gave him the name Junior Mehmood. He also acted as Mehmood’s brother-in-law in the film Suhag Raat (1968).

Mehmood was married and had a son named Hasnain Sayed, who is a writer and a music manager. He was a devout Muslim and used to visit the Haji Ali Dargah regularly. He was also fond of cars and owned one of the 12 imported cars in Mumbai at one point in time.
